Ashley Cole: Chelsea defender to leave Stamford Bridge

Ashley Cole says he does not think he will be at Chelsea next season and is seeking "another journey in my life" after eight years at Stamford Bridge.
The 33-year-old left-back, who announced his England retirement after 107 caps earlier this month, is out of contract this summer.
"I am weighing up my options for playing next season with my agent,

"Sadly, it does not look like Chelsea will be one of them."
Cole helped Chelsea win the Premier League title in 2010 as well as the 2012 Champions League.
He has also won four FA Cups with the Blues, to add to the three he secured with Arsenal, following his move to Stamford Bridge from the Gunners in August 2006.
Cole won the 2007 League Cup with Chelsea and was part of the club's Europa League triumph under interim manager Rafael Benitez in 2013.
But he endured a frustrating 2013-14 campaign under returning manager Jose Mourinho, starting just 15 Premier League games in a trophy-less season for the Blues.
"Now I'll be looking for another journey in my life," added Cole. "I hope it can be like my others, full of fun and of course win something."
Cole signed a one-year extension to his Chelsea contract, which was due to expire last summer, in January 2013.
But with a new deal at Stamford Bridge looking unlikely, Cole has resigned himself to leaving after 229 Premier League appearances.
"Thank you Chelsea for making my eight years a pleasure. We've been through a lot, good and bad," continued Cole.
"And of course the fans. How do I start, I can only say thank you for giving the boys confidence to win some amazing trophies.
"To the fans that have stood by me through thick and thin, I will always have you in my heart."
Earlier this month, Chelsea boss Mourinho said he did not think Cole would leave the club.
"I don't know but I don't think so. The club knows my opinion," said the Portuguese.
Last week Chelsea captain John Terry signed a new one-year deal to keep him at Stamford Bridge until 2015.

But the future of long-serving midfielder Frank Lampard, who is also out of contract this summer, has yet to be decided.
Cole retired from international football earlier this month after manager Roy Hodgson left him out of England's World Cup squad.
He made his international debut against Albania in March 2001 and went on to become only the seventh England player to reach a century of caps when he appeared in a friendly win over Brazil in February 2013.
Former Liverpool defender Alan Hansen, on his final Match of the Day appearance, said Cole was one of the greatest players the Premier League has seen.
"As a full-back for Arsenal, Chelsea and England there is nobody better in Premier League history," said the eight-time title winner.
"I would have taken him [to the World Cup] but I can understand why Roy Hodgson hasn't.
"I watched him play in the Champions League and against Liverpool and he was excellent.
"But he hasn't been playing a lot and that's probably the reason why Roy hasn't taken him."

Samir nasri girlfriend insult France coach for picking Nasir to World CUP

Samir Nasri's girlfriend Anara Atanes slams French decision to drop Nasir for 2014 fifa world cup on A
tweet...

Man City's Nasri left out of French World Cup squad

France coach Didier Deschamps named his squad for the 2014 World Cup in Brazil on Tuesday with no place for Manchester City star Samir Nasri, prompting a furious tirade from the player’s girlfriend on Twitter.

Despite helping City to claim a second Premier League title in three years this season, Nasri, who has won 41 international caps, has fallen out of favour with the national team following uninspiring displays during France’s two-legged World Cup qualifier play-off against Ukraine last year.
There have also been questions over his behaviour, with the midfielder receiving a three-match suspension handed down by the French Football Federation following a tirade directed at journalists during Euro 2012.
"Samir is an important player for Manchester City but he has not performed that well with France," Deschamps told French TV channel TF1.
"He is a starter at City, which is not the case with France and he has made clear that he is not happy when he is not (a starter), and I can tell you it can be felt in the squad.
"I built the best squad, I did not pick the 23 best French players."
The decision to leave Nasri out is unlikely to come as a shock to the player, who this month told France’s Canal Plus television that he expected to “watch the World Cup on TV” this summer.
However, it sparked an angry reaction from the player’s girlfriend, British model Anara Atanes.
“F**k france and f**k deschamps! What a s**t manager!” she tweeted shortly after the squad was announced.
“Incase u didnt read my tweet properly.... Ill repeat myself..... f**k FRANCE!!!!! And f**k deschamps!” she added a few minutes later.
Like Nasri, Abidal also failed to make it into the 23-man squad or the seven-man standby list. The 34-year-old has 67 caps for France, but has been used sparingly by Monaco boss Claudio Ranieri during the second part of the season.
Others absentees include City fullback Gael Clichy, with Deschamps instead picking the talented yet inexperienced Lucas Digne of Paris St Germain.
There are eight players aged under 25 in the squad, including the Real Sociedad winger Antoine Griezmann, who made his international debut against the Netherlands in March.
France have been drawn in Group E for the June 12-July 13 tournament, alongside Switzerland, Ecuador and Honduras.

Goalkeepers: Hugo Lloris (Tottenham Hotspur), Steve Mandanda (Olympique Marseille), Mickael Landreau (Bastia)
Defenders: Mathieu Debuchy (Newcastle United), Lucas Digne (Paris St Germain) Patrice Evra (Manchester United), Laurent Koscielny (Arsenal), Eliaquim Mangala (Porto), Bacary Sagna (Arsenal), Mamadou Sakho (Liverpool), Raphael Varane (Real Madrid)
Midfielders: Yohan Cabaye (Paris St Germain), Clement Grenier (Olympique Lyon), Blaise Matuidi (Paris St Germain), Rio Mavuba (Lille), Paul Pogba (Juventus), Moussa Sissoko (Newcastle United), Mathieu Valbuena (Olympique Marseille)
Forwards: Karim Benzema (Real Madrid), Olivier Giroud (Arsenal), Antoine Griezmann (Real Sociedad), Loic Remy (Newcaste United), Franck Ribery (Bayern Munich)
Standby players: Stephane Ruffier (Monaco), Loic Perrin (St Etienne), Maxime Gonalons (Olympique Lyon), Morgan Schneiderlin (Southampton), Benoit Tremoulinas (Dynamo Kiev), Alexandre Lacazette (Olympique Lyon), Remy Cabella (Montpellier).

(SPORT) Premier league Week 38 In details

Manchester City were crowned Barclays Premier League champions for the second time in three years after coasting to a 2-0 win over West Ham.

Manuel Pellegrini's side realistically only needed a point to secure the title and there was no repeat of the final-day drama of two years ago, when Sergio Aguero's last-gasp strike against Queens Park Rangers ensured they became champions of England for the first time in 44 years.

West Ham were unable to live with Man City in a one-sided encounter on Sunday, and Samir Nasri gave the home side a thoroughly deserved half-time lead at Etihad Stadium. Captain Vincent Kompany doubled the advantage early in the second half to ensure Pellegrini marked his first season in English football by winning both the Barclays Premier League and the Capital One Cup.

City's final-day victory ensured they won 17 out of 19 Barclays Premier League matches at Etihad Stadium this season and took their goal tally to 102 in the top flight during a superb debut season at the helm for their Chilean manager.

Liverpool came from behind to beat nine-man Newcastle United 2-1, but it was not enough for them to claim a first league title since 1990. Brendan Rodgers' men went into the final match of the season on Sunday knowing that a win, combined with City losing at home to West Ham, would end a 24-year wait for their coronation.

Martin Skrtel, a regular source of goals in important matches for Rodgers' side throughout the campaign, put through his own net on this occasion, turning Yoan Gouffran's centre past Simon Mignolet in front of a shell-shocked Kop after 20 minutes. It looked as though the hosts were going to be frustrated, until two almost identical goals from set-pieces midway through the second half from Daniel Agger and Daniel Sturridge changed the game.

The visitors had Shola Ameobi sent off for dissent in the aftermath of Sturridge's winner, as Newcastle suffered an eighth defeat in the last 10 Barclays Premier League outings and their woes were further compounded when Paul Dummett also saw red late on.

Tottenham Hotspur secured sixth place and a spot in the UEFA Europa League with a 3-0 win over Aston Villa. Paulinho scored first, capping off an intricate move after 14 minutes. The hosts had to wait another 21 minutes for their second as Nathan Baker scored an own goal.
Emmanuel Adebayor grabbed the third from the penalty spot towards the end of the first period and although Villa were slightly improved after the break, Paul Lambert's men rarely showed anything to worry the hosts.

Norwich City's relegation was confirmed as Arsenal warmed up for the FA Cup final with a comfortable 2-0 win at Carrow Road. The Norfolk side were effectively relegated after Sunderland's 2-0 win over West Bromwich Albion on Wednesday but their drop into the Championship was rubber-stamped four days later after second-half goals from Aaron Ramsey and Carl Jenkinson gave Arsenal victory.

Ramsey's goal, a stunning volley that crashed into the top-left corner, was special and Jack Wilshere's return from a broken foot after the hour-mark added to Arsenal's joy. Things were very different for Norwich, who after finishes of 12th and 11th under Chris Hughton, saw their three-year top-flight stay end.

A dreadful run of form, with three wins in their last 25 Barclays Premier League matches, led to their relegation, and the gulf in class between the two sides on Sunday was evident. Arsenal's fifth top-flight win in a row is sure to boost confidence ahead of Saturday's FA Cup showpiece against Hull City, as they go in search of their first trophy since winning the same competition in 2005.

Chelsea brought down the curtain on their campaign with a 2-1 win at Cardiff City. Late strikes from Andre Schurrle and Fernando Torres earned the points after Craig Bellamy's deflected effort had given Cardiff a first-half lead.

Garry Monk celebrated his permanent appointment as Swansea City manager by guiding his side to a 3-1 victory at Sunderland. The 35-year-old was handed the reins on a permanent basis on Wednesday, having served as head coach since Michael Laudrup left in February. And, after picking up a 2-1 win at Newcastle United in their last away fixture, Swansea made another fruitful trip to the north-east, Nathan Dyer putting the visitors in front in the seventh minute. Marvin Emnes doubled the advantage seven minutes later, but Fabio Borini pulled Sunderland back into the game early in the second half. The Wearsiders' joy was shortlived, however, as Wilfried Bony re-established the two-goal lead four minutes later to wrap up the points.
James McCarthy scored his first Everton goal as they eased to a 2-0 win at Hull City.
McCarthy's strike was complemented by Romelu Lukaku's effort just after half-time for Roberto Martinez's side, who controlled the match.

Everton went in front after eight minutes when McCarthy finished a typically flowing move and they completely dominated, with Steven Naismith firing wide and Lukaku forcing a save just before half-time. Chances were at a premium for the home side, who saw a Jake Livermore effort go wide and Maynor Figueroa's deflected shot saved.

Any hopes of a Hull fightback were dashed within 60 seconds of the restart as Lukaku got on the end of a fine Leon Osman ball to confidently slot home. The result means Everton finish with their highest points tally since their title-winning season of 1986-87 and 72 points equals Tottenham Hotspur's record last season of the most a team have gained without finishing in the top four.

Hull end their season 16th in the top flight, just improving on their previous best of 2008-09, but will head into the FA Cup final against Arsenal on the back of a five-match winless run.

Manchester United fell short in their bid for a UEFA Europa League place next season after a 1-1 draw at Southampton. United required a victory and defeat for Spurs against Aston Villa to steal sixth spot, but results transpired against Ryan Giggs' men.

Juan Mata levelled for the visitors early in the second half with a sumptuous free-kick that gave Artur Boruc absolutely no chance in the Southampton goal after Rickie Lambert had broken the deadlock with a 28th-minute opener.

West Bromwich Albion's Barclays Premier League status was confirmed for another season despite a 2-1 defeat by Stoke City at The Hawthorns. Norwich's defeat by Arsenal, meant West Brom were assured of survival despite a fifth straight home loss at the hands of Stoke. Stephane Sessegnon hit the bar from point-blank range for Pepe Mel's men early on, but the visitors soon seized control and moved ahead after 22 minutes courtesy of a Gareth McAuley own goal.

West Brom rallied after the break and levelled through a calm finish from Sessegnon, while Youssouf Mulumbu was denied by a post just after the hour. Yet it was Stoke who sealed victory two minutes from time thanks to substitute Charlie Adam's strike from distance.

A last-gasp equaliser from Chris David gave relegated Fulham a 2-2 draw with Crystal Palace. The match provided terrific entertainment in a frenetic contest in the last top-flight game at Craven Cottage for at least a season.
Dwight Gayle, the hero of Palace's 3-3 draw with Liverpool on Monday, looked to have given his side the points with a double, which was separated by Cauley Woodrow's first goal for Fulham. However, substitute David came off the bench to ensure a share of the spoils late into added time with a magnificent curling effort that flew into the top corner. Palace finish the campaign in 11th, while Fulham end the season second bottom.

(SPORT) Gerrard: First title with Liverpool is not too far away

Liverpool captain Steven Gerrard took comfort in the club’s strongest title challenge for a long time this season after the Merseyside club fell short of being champions for the first time in 24 years.
Liverpool needed to beat Newcastle United at home and hope for West Ham United to stun Manchester City at the Etihad Stadium. Liverpool went behind to a Martin Skrtel own goal but two second-half goals, one from Daniel Agger and the other from Daniel Sturridge, turned the match round but it was not enough as City cruised to a 2-0 win over West Ham and the title.
If someone had said to me that we would go into the last game with a slim chance of winning the league I'd have taken that at the start of the season,” Gerrard. “But as a footballer you always want more.
"We have been unlucky - we gave it a great shot, but we fell a little bit short. But what do we do? We dust ourselves down and go again. It took me until I'm 33 to really experience a proper, genuine title race. This squad is very young, and the experience those lads are going to gain from this rollercoaster is going to be very important. The title is not too far away if we continue to produce performances like we have done this season.
"Before this season the manager gave us the top four as a target - I don't think that'll be his target next season, and it certainly won't be the players'. We've proved this season that we're capable of mixing it with the best and we want another title race, and we want to go one better next year.
"If we add to this team and the squad in the right areas we are capable of challenging. Things have changed here - the supporters know that and the players know that.
"We are genuine title contenders before a ball is kicked next year, and we need to go and prove that we're the top side in the league over 38 games, and not second."
